A Different Kind of Light

It was a different kind of light,
than the one I'd seen before,
when floating above myself,
calmy facing the horror.
Other times I'd been called,
it was a bright white light,
emanating from a pinhole center,
a warm and comforting sight.
But this light shined differently.
Not inviting, like I am used to,
but cold and foreboding...
it did not beckon you.
Instead...it seeming to grab my ankles,
it started pulling me more close,
grappling up my body
in an attempt to engross.
Its amber glow shinned dimly,
illuminating my only hope,
jutting from the ground,
rocks large enough to grope.
But as I got a hold,
they crumble through my grip,
powder off in to rubble,
and closer I did slip.
I could smell the stench of Hades,
feel the cold wind rush up my spine,
I was so close to consumption,
and then something came to mind.
I prayed for redemption,
quickly confessed my sins,
and as an act of atonement,
accepted Jesus as my Lord once again.
All at once the light went white,
My joy, hard to convey,
for now it was that familiar calling,
That lets me walk away.
